Opening Notes

Hebrews Opening Notes Who wrote it? The writer does not identify himself. Scholars Suggest: Paul, Luke, Priscilla,                            Barnabas, Apollos (Among Others) I want it to be Paul: Based on his passion for his people. Rom 9:2   That I have great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart.  Rom 9:3   For I could wish that myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh:  Rom 9:4   Who are Israelites; to whom pertaineth the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises;  But: Literally: All of Paul’s letters start with “Paul” –Servant-Apostle-To The Church (Brother)-Prisoner (Of Christ)- Hebrews does not. e.g.: Rom 1:1  Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, sepa...

Foreward

Foreward Hebrews   -Considerations Before Study – Hebrews was likely written before the destruction of Jerusalem 70 A.D. The author does not name himself, and cannot ultimately be identified. It stands to reason that this person was well acquainted with Jewish leadership, and priestly practices as it applied to the Jewish culture. Remember, the Jewish nation had “kings” and religious leaders consecutively. Israel would have been happy just to live by the law of Moses as a sovereign nation under a selected king. This however is not the case. As the book implies, the Jews still clung fast to their history of receivin...

Where To Start?

At the beginning. Of course! I have read Hebrews. I have studied many parts of it. Whenever the church adult class would study the book, I would do part of it, then would need to abandon it to focus my efforts in teaching younger students. So I technically have never made in in-depth study of the book in its entirety. So this is very exciting! This book is so extraordinarily powerful in that it speaks to the historical lineage of the christ.....directly to his people. It is their history that Jehovah set out to document His love manifested through the ultimate self-sacrifice. The book also covers how this should affect our Christian walk. I suggest you just read through it, without any distractions or intent to make notes. It takes about an hour +-. If you're like me, you will find the book has the very distinct cadence of a gospel preacher sending out an awe inspired sermon. Every sentence and paragraph is filled with power. With that, returning to the sermon to draw out...
